Verbs are one of the very important categories in Chinese, and they are the essential knowledge that should be mastered by foreign students. And the hand gestural verbs are typical verbal category, among which the hand gestural verbs are quite essential and frequently used in communications; therefore, the grammatical items related with the hand gestural verbal usage are considered as “typicality”. Consequently, the hand gestural verbs surely become the difficult learning points for foreign students in learning Chinese as a foreign language in the practice teaching. First, this thesis will make use of the HSK Corpus of Beijing Language and Culture University by focusing on the error analysis of 43 monosyllable hand gestural verbs, such as Chinese words“拿” “打” “抱” etc. Secondly, the author will analyze and discuss the nature of monosyllable hand gestural verbs from the dimensions of definition, category, distributions of word senses and semantic change as well as the contents related with cultural idioms. Third, through the investigation of comprehensive uses of monosyllable hand gestural verbs in the textbook and the syllabus of HSK, the author analyzed the causes of the error usage, inducted the error samples in practice and summarized the error types form the view of users. Finally, the relevant strategies are put forwards for the foreign students to learn the monosyllable hand gestural verbs effectively.
