The Ethical Review On The Concept Of Privacy

With the development of society, privacy issues increasingly become the focus of people’s attention.In the discussion about privacy issues, privacy increasing emphasis on the protecting of private life in general, the definition of privacy epitomizes this. For the concept of privacy, the paper examined some representative views in the ethical perspective, with the conceptualization analysis of privacy. Thus make a reduction of the existing concept of privacy and reach for a more accurate grasp of privacy by converting the ethical context.This paper will be divided into three parts:Firstly, the distinction between normative and descriptive connotation of the concept of privacy, thus revealing the privacy difficulties in defining the concept.Many definitions of privacy such as’being let alone’,’control of the information about oneself,’control of access to oneself’ and’limitation of access to oneself’ have confused the descriptive and normative connotation of privacy. Secondly, the paper reflects on the traditional idea of locking privacy in the private sphere. Through the analysis of the values of privacy, the author tries to prove that the value of individual dignity and personal freedom based on the subjective turn of modern culture, have a profound effect on our understanding of privacy nowadays, and even it construct the connotation of privacy. Corresponding to this, the author expose the shortcomings of the concept of privacy and the ethical dilemmas by reflecting the ethical defending and the ethical basis of privacy.By reflecting on the distinction between the private and the public,the value of privacy and the ethical foundation of privacy, the author tries to reveal that when based on the ethical foundation of individualism and confused of the normative connotation and descriptive connotation of the concept of privacy, privacy has become synonymous with protecting the freedom of the private sphere of life with the dichotomy of the private and the public.Finally, through the analysis of the definition of individual person, the author achieved the converting of the context of privacy discussion reference to the Hegel’s theory of recognition, and take the concept of privacy a connotation of inter-subjectivity. In the process of the struggling for recognition among subjects, in order to get the others’recognition and to maintain one’s self-identity, the subject promote the formation of the concept of privacy based on it’s normative connotations.
