Features And Translation Strateies Of Operator’s Manual Of Medical Devices

The author wishes that the analysis and discussions made in the thesis may bringrevelations for the future translation of operators’ manual of medical device.The thesis first introduces the function of medical devices and translations of theoperator’s manual, then the problems met in the translation; after that a translation ofAmerica’s Cryocare Surgical Operators’ Manual is selected as a case, and features of the textand translation strategies are mentioned. The author analyses technical words, compounds,sentences in passive voices, imperative sentences, and nominal phrases used frequently in thethesis from the perspectives of lexical, syntactic, and textual levels, and talks about translationapproaches, like the technical expression of words, the simplicity of the sentences andprecision of the information. By concluding the translation approaches used above, the authorcomes to two methods, that is semantic translation and communicative translation. Semantictranslation is intended for the delivery of original meaning of the SL, while communicativetranslation takes features of TL into consideration, whose purpose is to make the TL conformto the expression habit. Of course, a qualified translator shall guarantee the accuracy of thescript, meanwhile, the script can be read easily. What a reliable translator completes is not thetext itself, but cultural communication of the same event. The author would further the studyin the later translation practice and make more contribution in the improvement of the qualityof translation.
