The fourth translation upsurge is booming in China, which is inspiring. Chinese translation undertaking has been significantly promoted by two incidents:reform and opening up policy and China’s accession to WTO, which demands higher qualification of interpreters. Therefore, interpreters should work harder to meet the higher requirement of the market.In terms of ways of working, interpretation can be classified into consecutive interpretation (CI) and simultaneous interpretation (SI). With its high flexibility, efficiency and professionalism, consecutive interpretation is one of the most commonly used interpretation in all situations and areas.Addition strategy is an important flexible interpretation handling method. It exerts positive impact on sentence restructuring, meaning compensating, rhetorics, expressiveness, optimizing language structure and strengthening communicative effects. In CI, there are many cultural differences between English and Chinese and unpredictable factors, which will influence the interpreter’s listening and analysis of the source language. Therefore, the interpreter should add logical content in accordance with the context with appropriate addition strategy to ensure the target language is faithful to the source language with complete meaning and in line with the language habits of target language.Therefore, under the guidance of Skopos Theory, the author intends to study and summarize the categories and usage features of addition strategy through an interpretation the author has done and applied addition strategies. This paper aims at using definition and categories of addition, the author hoping to assist interpreters in coping with interpretation practice of any topics and making contribution to the development of China’s interpretation undertaking.
