The purpose of this study is to explore to improve the students’ self-esteemthrough the self-affirmation group psychological counseling. And this studyexplores the research methods of college students’ psychological counseling. At thesame time, the study worked out a training mode to promote the level ofself-esteem of college students effectively. The investigator designed a set of groupcounseling scheme based on the research of group counseling. The scheme canimprove the self-esteem level of students and provide the reference for the college todo psychological counseling work of college students.The first phase of this study selected500college students of a university in Yantairandomly, and makes self-affirmation test scale and self-esteem scale forthese students. The purpose is to explore the status quo and the level of self-esteemand self-affirmation of college students. Investigate the relationship between the levelof self-esteem and self-affirmation, and the correlation of self-affirmation and self-esteem level. The second phase of the study,according to the test of the first phase,choose24students who have low level of self-esteem and self-affirmation,12college students were selected randomly as the experimental group, including5boysand7girls, the remaining12were used as controlled subjects, including6boys and6girls. Based on previous research, as well as the daily life of students, investigatordesigned a set of group training courses, and the stage of groupcounseling experimental subjects in this course, the controlled group was not involvedin the course. This study used before-and-after event, controlled group experimentaldesign, with researchers design course of the experimental group was carried out oncea week, for eight weeks, a total of eight times, and the time of group activity time isninety minutes, the control group was not involved in the course of grouppsychological counseling, its natural development. The experimental group andcontrol group all subjects before and after the group counseling intervention all theself esteem scale and self affirmation scale test and follow-up interviews, the subjectsin the experimental group, the further understanding of the effect of group counselingintervention. The conclusions of this study:(1) The level of self-esteem and self-affirmation of college students has asignificant difference in some demographic variables; it was relatedto self-esteem and self-affirmation positively.(2) The scores of students of self-affirmation group have significantly increasedin self-esteem and self-affirmation.(3) After the group counseling, the researchers interviewed collegestudents participated in group, they enhanced self-confidence, reducedindividual’s emotional stress, promoted the individual positive and improved theindividual’s self-confidence.
