The Chinese characters’teaching is an important link and also the most difficult part in teaching Chinese as a second language. The foreign students often want to give up the further learning about the characters, but knowing well Chinese characters is an essential prerequisite for improving the Chinese level. So how to improve the teaching methods to help students improve their ability of Chinese characters is an important issue. This paper is based on the researching to Confucius Institute of Medellin of Colombia, from the student level, motivation, age, etc. to analyze and suggest making different methods, teaching objectives and requirements according to different students. And then it introduces the Chinese characters’teaching improving of Confucius Institute of Medellin by comparing and mixing "the traditional six categories of Chinese characters" and "the modern six categories of Chinese characters" theories in order to give some useful suggestions for the future teaching area.
