With the trend of globalization, education has also launched a “going global andbringing in” mode, introducing high-qualified teaching resources and extending exchangesand cooperation with countries of well-developed educational systems. In September2014,at the invitation of the Northeast Asian Studies College, Professor Reisinger came to JilinUniversity for three-day academic activities. William M. Reisinger is a Professor of PoliticalScience at The University of Iowa. As an MTI student, the author interpreted for ProfessorReisinger during his lectures. This report is based on two consecutive interpreting practices: Putin’s PersonalistRegime and Russia’s Future and Strategies for Political Science Research. There includesfour parts in the thesis. First is task description, mainly describing the background andcustomer’s basic requirements. Then it comes to an elaboration of the Interpreting process, which covers preparation (information collection, terminology collection, consecutiveinterpreting skills and contingence planning), execution of the interpreting plan (taskduration and interpreting quality control) and feedbacks (customer feedback andself-assessment). Moreover, the author is to present and analyze the problems the authorencountered in the interpreting process (syntactical misunderstandings, interculturalcommunication barriers and listening problems), and finally the author came out withpossible coping strategies (seizing key information effectively; enriching related field ofknowledge and getting detailed knowledge about the speaker). The present thesis putsemphasis on the problems and corresponding strategies, hoping to improve her interpretingskills, and providing some useful references for other interpreters in future.
