With the rapid economic growth and the deepening of reform and opening up,China is playing a more important role in the international arena. To create a friendlyenvironment for international bounds and relationships at each level, China mustdemonstrate the beauty of its culture to the world, while studying and absorbing theessence of foreign countries, In the circumstances, interpreters play an essential role.They are the bridges between different languages.International Symposium on the Encounter and Interaction of Languages andCultures is a vital platform for the cultural exchange in Northeast Asia. To study thelanguages and cultures of this region could enhance cultural exchange and mutualunderstanding among countries. The subject is study of literary and culturalmasterpieces that play important roles in this region. Languages used include Chinese,English, Japanese, Russian and Korean.Based on the simultaneous interpretation procedure of the closing ceremony of theinternational symposium, the author made an attempt to analyze the advantages anddisadvantages of the interpretation process in accordance with Gile’s interpretationstrategies and criteria. This thesis includes four parts. Part I introduces thepreparations before the interpretation from three aspects. Part II describes theinterpretation procedure and points out the difficulties. Part III evaluates theinterpretation procedure from both the author’s own perspective and the audience’sperspective on the basis of Gile’s criteria. Part IV provides some improving strategiesin accordance with the previous analysis.This thesis is a practice report of a simultaneous interpretation procedure. Throughthis thesis, the author aims to provide coping strategies to solve problems in the wholeprocedure by concluding the advantages and disadvantages, thus to improve theinterpretation quality in the future.
