A Report On The Medical Translation Project Of German Schallware GmbH Company

Nowadays the international communication is very frequent. The communication between countries depends on the translation. With the multiple development of international businesses, the classification of translation is more detailed. There are many different translation documents and diversified forms of translation. With the development of economy, more and more people not only study abroad, but also see a doctor in foreign countries. However, it is always difficult for people to know the state of illness because of the obstacles of languages. Therefore medical translation occurs and springs up quickly. Most medical translations are of small scale and the contents are professional. Thus medical translations often requires high quality.This report talks about a medical translation project from English to Chinese of Schallware GmbH Company in Germany in November2013. The translation document is about18,000words. Two classmates, a teacher and the author finished the task within7days. Through the analysis of the whole process in this project and typical medical translation examples, this report focuses on the specialty and advantages as well as disadvantages about the translation forms, the feature of translation contents, the combination of Skopos Theory and typical cases to analyze some translation methods. In the report, the author briefly introduces the translation project at first, then analyzes the project before the translation and talks about how to prepare for this translation project. After the analysis of typical cases, the author refers to the topic about the professional ethics of medical translators. In the end the report reflects some shortcomings in this medical translation project. The author hopes this report can offer some experience to similar translation projects.
