Chinese and Korean belong to two different systems of languages, but both of them have adversative conjunctions. Starting from the actual and present facts about language, with"但是,可 是,不过", Chinese adversative conjunctions meaning "but, yet and however" and Korean adversative conj unctions "(?)" as the research obj ect, the paper probes into generality and individuality of Chinese and Korean adversative conjunctions in syntax, semantics, pragmatics and so on and corresponding forms between the two.The paper mainly explores the following aspects:The first chapter is the introduction which mainly explains research objective, significance, scope, object and relevant researches about Chinese and Korean adversative conjunctions. In addition, basic idea and linguistic data source of the paper are also stated in this part.The second chapter makes a comparison of the syntactic function of Chinese and Korean adversative conjunctions. The paper mainly studies the connection function, collocation function and syntactic distribution of Chinese and Korean adversative conjunctions from the perspective of syntax so as to find out similarities and differences between the two.The third chapter compares Chinese and Korean adversative conjunctions semantically. According to paraphrasing in dictionary and abundant corpus analysis, the paper works out similarities and differences between the two by summarizing basic meanings and rich additional meanings of Chinese and Korean adversative conjunctions. On the basis of the semantic analysis, the two’s corresponding forms are concluded.The fourth chapter compares the pragmatic functions of Chinese and Korean adversative conjunctions. The paper mainly studies restricted function, textual function and frequency of use of Chinese and Korean adversative conjunctions, and thereby finds out similarities and differences between the two.
