A Studv From The Cultural Perspective On The Translation Of Cultural Cannotation Words In The Albanian Translated Version Of The Novel "Bretkosa"

Today’s era globalization and modern technology have accelerated the cultural exchanges between nations and have produced a more profound cross-communication in different fields of life. In cross-cultural communication, language is the most important tool in cultural transmission and expansion. language helps communicate culture and at the same time it carries culture. Word is the basic unit of language that directly mirrors culture, in particular the culture cannotation words. owing to the fact that china is a nation of a long history and culture, chinese language is rich in culture cannotation words. however, the translation into another languge of these culture related words become a problematic issue for the translator. Culture related words here referred as culture cannotation words are closely related to the culture of a nation thus their translation into another language can become very challenging. Taking the novel of "wa" as an object of study, this paper aims to explore the translation of chinese culture cannotation words into Albanian. Based on nida’s theory of functional equivalence, under the guidance of the transaltion strategies of domestication and foreignization we will offer a case study on the translation of cultural cannotation words that are related to the five categories based on newmark’s culture typology: material culture, linguistic culture, ecological culture, religious culture and social culture. To avoid flaws or misunderstanding in translation of the culture related words the translator must take into account the cultural gap between the source language readers and the target readers., He should employ the right translation strategies to facilitate communication and promote culture exchange. The paper is composed of four chapters:the first one serves as a general introduction to the topic, it explains the methodology and the significance of the paper. The second and the third chapter unveil a complete theoretical background to our study. The fourth chapter is a case study on the cannotation words. they have been selected into five categories illustrated with tables, each category containing specific examples of translation methods based on their frequency of appearance. At last the conclusions, we summarize the major findings and point out the significance of this paper. In the context of cross-cultural communication within transaltion, it is translator’s task to build bridges between the two languages. A translator is not only a bilinguist he has to possess profound knowledge of both cultures. Only under this circumstance, he is able to successfully translate from a source language to a target language.
