| With the advent of information age, the Chinese media industry has had so quick development that it has absorbed a large amount of information from aboard. News translation is frequently used by Chinese media to deliver useful information to the readers. As an efficient and quick way to process information, transediting is one of the frequently-used news translation methods. To further solve the problems in transediting, case study is adopted to argue the important role of pre-translation information processing. Transediting principles and methods are summarized accordingly.This report is based on the English-Chinese transediting of on-line Odd News on Huanqiu Website. The author performed this task by herself with sufficient translation volume, covering more than 30,000 English words. By viewing and analyzing the translation process as well as representative cases, the report explores three aspects in news transediting project: how to ensure quality through pre-translation preparations and procedure management; how to deal with information processing according to the characteristics of news; and how to achieve precision, readability and communicative goals by determining sub-types of texts and adopting flexible transediting skills. This report mainly analyzes the odd news which certainly has much difference from other types of news. Pointing out these differences is conducive to summarize the corresponding transediting strategies. The report could also be a reference for the future cooperation of those transediting projects.This report includes 5 parts. Chapter 1 is task introduction which introduces Huanqiu website and basic transediting theories. Chapter 2 is project description which includes the basic requirements about the translator and the press releases, pre-translation preparation and project significance on the basis of introducing the background of project briefly. Chapter 3 is brief conclusion of the respective characteristics of the on-line news, informative news and odd news. Chapter 4 is case analysis by dividing the text into two parts: information processing and text type processing, trying to summarize different translation methods for different types. Chapter 5 summarizes some basic principles and standards of the transedition of the on-line odd news. In addition, the problems left in the project are put forward. |
