| With information technology getting matured, the new media, represented by news websites, owing to its high efficiency and easy accessibility, is becoming the main resource where people get information. Nowadays, the proliferation of news websites demands more news written in English to be translated and edited for knowledge share.This report is thus to meet such a challenge by translating fashion and entertainment news of Huanqiu website from English to Chinese. Since fashion and entertainment news are classified as soft news, which differs from hard news in that the former focuses more on playfulness, translators are supposed to convey such a feature in the target language.To successfully maintain the playfulness of the original English news, the following techniques are employed. First, rearrange the structure of the original news. Second, translate and edit the headline into one with features of Chinese language. Last, give explanation of the culture and important background in the original news that Chinese readers are not familiar with, then delete information Chinese readers are not that care about or interested in as the original language readers. |
