This interpreting practice report is based on the interpreting of the Garden of Lotus Pond It is a comprehensive introduction, analysis and summary of the interpreting task, which comes from a tour visit to the famous garden of Lotus Pond in Baoding organized by a travel agent. The visitor is Andrew Smith, an America and the Chinese tour guide is Hua Qing who is an staff of the garden and invited by the travel agency to be this visiting guide. This interpretation is consecutive mainly Chinese to English, also with small part of English to Chinese interpretation. It took 90 minutes to complete this work, but finally it turned out to be successful that the visitor and the travel agency highly appreciated.This report is composed of five parts—Task Description, Process Description, Preparations before Interpreting, Case Analysis and Practice Summary, among which Case Analysis is the core part. The task description mainly talk about the feature of this interpretation and the process description is about some details on this task. Preparations before Interpreting describes the preparations on two parts which are the background knowledge and the tools. The Case Analysis part discusses how to use the interpreting skills flexibly onto the practice.The tour interpreter needs an important ability on intercultural communication. Only owning both ability of well knowing the background of the scenic spots and being proficient in the character of the bilingual tour version and using the interpreting skills flexibly, can you reach an appropriate cultural transition.
