Chinese is developing with long history. One of its characters is function words being plentiful. We should divide Chinese into different spaces to master, especially function words, which is a grammar means too hard to learn. This essay analyses common function words deeply from specific words which depends on <Modern Chinese Dictionary> and <The ancient Chinese Function Words Dictionary>. By analyzing more than 300 common function words, show the usage of common function words in ancient and modern Chinese, the regular of their development, and the internal and external reasons, as well as being accompanied by classical examples in ancient and modern classics. Those lead the foundation of this essay to be more stable. It explains function words in two ways: “block” and “strip”. It can help us master function words intuitively. It not only shows the service condition of ancient and modern Chinese at the angel of the synchronic, but also shows the regular of theirs development at the angel of diachronic. In addition, the essay is divided into two parts to show, monotonic function words and tremolo function words. It includes what condition they show at present and in the past, and in which way they develop. The essay analyses what I mentioned with plentiful examples, to prove the idea the essay put forward. This essay aims to research inheritance and lost of tremolo function words systematically so as to combine ancient Chinese and modern Chinese. We can find the resource of function words, and the regular and reasons of its developing. The first part summarizes the current situation of function words from macro point of view and meaning, methods, main content of the essay. The second part analyzes inheritance and lost of monotonic function words. The third part analyzes inheritance and lost of tremolo function words. The forth part analyzes the internal and external reasons, and from the syllable, vocabulary, grammar to sum up their development law.
