The Effect Of Gratitude Psychological Intervention On Junior High School Students’ Altruistic Behavior

Purpose:To discuss the affect path of gratitude psychological for altruistic behavior by investigation gratitude psychological, altruistic behavior and related factors; Through gratitude psychological intervention to discuss the effect of gratitude psychological intervention on gratitude psychological, altruistic behavior and related factors.Methods:Survey research uses questionnaire method. The students of a total number of 748 students from 15 classes selected from grade one to grade three in junior high school were tested use“Junior High School Students’ Gratitude Questionnaire”, “Altruistic Behavior Self-report Questionnaire”, “Perceived Social Support Scale ”and “The Adolescent Subjective Will-being Schedule”. Using correlation analysis, regression analysis and the method of structural equation model to discuss the affect path of gratitude psychological for altruistic behavior. In Intervention study, the research objects are randomly selected two classes from the same grade and divided into intervention group and control group. The intervention group received gratitude psychological intervention courses, the control group did not take intervention courses, and discuss the effect of gratitude psychological intervention on gratitude, altruistic behavior and related factors. Compare the differences in gratitude questionnaire scores, Altruistic behavior self-report questionnaire scores and the related questionnaire scores between the two groups and within the intervention group by gratitude psychological intervention.Results:1.Survey Findings(1) Junior high school students’ total gratitude average score is 77.605±13.280. There is significant difference of gratitude in gender, grade and whether the student cadre or not(t=-4.515, p<0.001; F=3.445, p< 0.05; t=4.236, p<0.001).While there is no significant difference in the only child or not and origin(p>0.05). Junior high school students’ altruistic behavior average score is 58.699±16.636. There is significant difference of altruistic behavior in grade and whether the student cadre or not(F=21.156, p<0.001; t=4.084, p<0.001). While there is no significant difference in gender, the only child or not and origin(p>0.05).(2)Total gratitude score and its each dimension scores are positively correlated with altruistic behavior.Total gratitude score and its each dimension scores, altruistic behavior score are positively correlated with total perceived social support score and its each dimension scores, total gratitude score and its each dimension scores, altruistic behavior score are positively correlated with life satisfaction and positive emotional, total gratitude score and its each dimension scores, altruistic behavior score are negatively correlated with negative emotional. Regression analysis shows that the main influence factors of altruistic behavior are total perceived social support score, the moral orientation of gratitude, positive emotional, total gratitude score, these factors can explain 27.8% of altruistic behavior variation.(3)Structural equation model(SEM) show that gratitude has direct effect to the altruistic behavior, perceived social support and positive emotional also has a direct effect to altruistic behavior. Gratitude not only has a direct effect on altruistic behavior, but also plays a role of indirect effects of altruistic behavior by influencing the perceived social support and positive emotional.2. Intervention Study ResultsMeasured the indicators of pretest, immediate post-test and delay post-test by repeated measures analysis of variance and the results display: gratitude score(F=8.683, p<0.05),altruistic behavior score(F=4.976, p<0.05), perceived social support score(F=17.687, p< 0.05), life satisfaction score(F=14.605, p<14.605), positive emotional score(F=4.762, p< 4.762), negative emotions scores(F=3.652, p<0.05) have significant difference among treatment,gratitude score(F=3.949, p<0.05), life satisfaction score(F=3.837, p<0.05) have trends over time,and on gratitude score(F= 3.949, p<0.05), perceived social support score(F= 3.780, p<0.05), positive emotional score(F=3.713, p<0.05), the role of time factor is different with subgroup. Further comparisons revealed: the score of gratitude, altruism, perceived social support, life satisfaction and positive mood on the test group’ immediate post-test and delayed post-test has significantly higher than pretest and control group, the score of negative mood on the test group’ immediate post-test has significantly lower than pretest and control group.Conclusions:1.Junior high school students’ level of gratitude psychological is well, altruistic behavior is in the medium level.2. Gratitude psychological is not only has direct effect to the altruistic behavior, but also play a role of indirect effects of altruistic behavior by influencing the Perceived social support and positive emotions.3. Gratitude intervention study show that Gratitude psychological intervention can significantly improve the level of junior high school students’ gratitude psychological, altruistic behavior, perceived social support and subjective well-being.
