With the continuous development of China’s economy, communication between countries in areas such as technology, economy, science and culture has been increased. All industries, especially after China’s entry into WTO, are keeping up with international requirements. As a part of scientific and technical literature, China’s standard documents also begin to be in step with the world level. However, some industries in China, especially those mechanical industries still depend on the import of technology and equipment from developed countries, for our research, testing and establishment of mechanical standard documents are far behind those of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).Under such circumstances, it’s necessary to conduct in-depth research and analysis of IEC and ISO standards, thus, the translation work is inevitable. Translation of international standards can not only benefit Chinese engineers, help them to master foreign advanced technologies, but also promote China’s innovation in proprietary intellectual property rights. This is a translation report for IEC/ISO standard documents of electric welding machine. The source text is English, amounting to eleven international standards with about 70,000 words. The contents involve liquid cooling systems, wire feeders, torches, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), mechanical and electrical requirements. The selected translation in this this report is the part of liquid cooling systems with about 5,000 words in total. This report includes four parts. The first part introduces the translation project and analyzes the features of standard. The second part displays the translation preparation, including parallel texts reading, translation criteria and translation plan. Part Three focuses on the translation project management, such as project implementation, quality control and project summary. Part Four discusses the C-E (Chinese-English) translation technics for international standards. This report, taking international standards of electric welding machine as analyzing materials, and ased on Functional Equivalence Theory, aims to put translation project managements widely used in Chinese translation industries into practice and find proper translation technics for standard documents. Besides, the author expects to offer references for international standards translation in the future.
