This is a translation report. The author explores the translation methods of long sentences of English legislative documents by the translation of the Tourism Act of Kenya. As is known to us all, legal language has the features of “authority” and “preciseness”, so different kinds of subordinate clauses, modifiers and parallel structures are often used. Thus, there inevitably appear many long sentences in English legislative documents. The Tourism Act is a kind of English legislative documents. Also, there are many long sentences with complex structure in the Tourism Act of Kenya. In this translation report, firstly, the author analyzes the reasons and the features of long sentences of English legislative documents and expounds the translation methods of English legislative documents. Then, the author explores the translation methods used in the Tourism Act of Kenya, such as sequential translation, reverse translation, division and convergent translation. Finally, the author draws the conclusion and summarizes some gains in this translation practice.
