The material of this translation practice is chosen from Chapter Two and Chapter Five of Understanding Multicultural Education co-authored by Francisco Rios and Christine Rogers Stanton. This book consists of eight chapters, among which the first chapter is the brief introduction to American multicultural education. The following chapters, various aspects of multicultural education including its development background in America, its criteria, the challenges and misunderstanding faced by it as well as its development prospect in the future are further introduced in detail. As this book covers a comprehensive range and has fewer terms, it is suitable as the stepping stone to the understanding of multicultural education. This report takes Chapter Two and Chapter Five of Understanding Multicultural Education as the practice translation material. Guided by the functional equivalence theory of Eugene Nida, the report adopts some translation strategies such as conversion as well as amplification and annotation. It includes four parts. In the first part, the background of this practice material is introduced and the type of this material is defined. In the second part, the translation task including the pre-translation preparation, the translation process and the after-translation revision is overviewed. In the third part, the case analysis is provided, that is, specific cases are analyzed according to different translation strategies while the last part is the conclusion of this translation practice.
