In general,meanings of modern Chinese function words are abstract and obscure.Thus it has become a focus with difficulties in TCFL(Teaching of Chinese as a Foreign Language).For example,常常(chang chang)and往往(wang wang),a pair of common words in our daily life,are easily used in a incorrect way by foreign students because their meanings are so similar that can be replaced by each other in certain context.This thesis consists of four parts.Firstly,the thesis gives detailed information about parts of speech of these two words,常常(chang chang)and往往(wang wang),from the aspect of ontology.What’s more,they are briefly compared in differences of semantic meaning,syntax and pragmatics.Secondly,by analyzing the Interlanguage Corpus of Jinan University and HSK Dynamic Corpus,the thesis categorizes four types of biased errors of常常(chang chang)and往往(wang wang)made by foreign students,namely missing,mis-adding,and misuse of adverbs from the perspectives of grammar and pragmatic.Thirdly, the thesis discusses the causes of these kinds of biased errors in teaching, learning and environment.Lastly,suggestions/solutions are made in the aspect of teachers,textbooks and learners by the thesis to contribute to the teaching of function words including常常(chang chang)and往往(wang wang)in TCFL.
