A Practice Report On The Application Of Conversion Of Parts Of Speech In Chinese Translation Of Harvest

This translation practice chooses the English book Harvest as the translating text, there are ten chapters in the book, the total English word are 100,000, the team of three divide the book to complete the translation task. The writer of this paper has translated chapter four to chapter seven which has 30,000 English words. This translating text is the agriculture-related descriptive text with the narrative text feature. The book has plenty of agricultural terms, and both descriptive and narrative words and sentences.At the preparation stage before translation, the language feature of the text has been analyzed, during the translation, the part of speech in the source text, such as nouns, verbs, adjectives, propositions and adverbs, have been converted in the translated text; at stage of translation summing-up, the effectiveness of the part of speech conversion in this translation practice has been explored through case studies.The practice report shows that, for the respective features of syntactic structure, semantic expression, the collocation and usage of the part of speech in English and Chinese, employing the effective approaches to properly convert the part of speech can make the translated text more accurate and smooth in the English and Chinese translation, especially in the process of Chinese translation of this English text.
