| When talking about soft news, we often have it compared with hard news. The softness and hardness do not refer to the news content, but to the fact and to whether it reports effectively and timely or not. According to the definition, soft news is a kind of readable, acceptable news which not only offers humans entertainment, but also broadens their outlook, increases their knowledge and cultivates their temperament, and its aim is to arouse reader’s interest and emotive sympathy. With the increasing communication between China and western in science and culture, the soft news has become an important gateway to know the information. This is the reason why recent years more and more scholars get to study the translation methods of soft news from various perspectives, such as Relevance Theory, Communication Theory, and Functional Translation Theory and so on. Based on the achievements the fore-scholars have made, this thesis, connecting the Variation Theory with the exact soft news translation cases at Huanqiu website, mainly analyses the main translation method, such as editing and translation, selecting and translation and rendering and translation, which used in translating soft news under the guidance of the theory and proves its obviously practical value to soft news translation, in hope of adding new blood to the theory and bringing some enlightenment to news’translators and learners. |
