The C-E Translation Of Real Estate Commentary Under The Guidance Of Newmark’s Translation Theory

With the continuous urbanization process in China, the real estate industry has got a rapid rise these years and has been one of the significant factors of national economic development. The great market prospect of China and its increasingly inclusive social environment make more and more foreigners active participants of real estate activities. The C-E translation of real estate commentary has become a common need in the market. Therefore, it has great practical significance to study the specific C-E translation of real estate commentary with a scientific translation theory.Under the guidance of Newmark’s translation theory, this paper aims to study the C-E translation strategy of real estate commentary. Newmark’s translation theory mainly includes the Text Type Theory and the two translation strategies—semantic translation and communicative translation. Newmark divides the translated text into three main types: expressive text, informative text and vocative text, and deems that different types of text should be adopted with different strategies. This paper will analyze the text characteristics of real estate commentary and consider it very illustrative, ministrant and vocative. The paper regards the real estate commentary as a kind of text which is primarily equipped with vocative function, combining with informative function, so the translator should mainly adopt communicative translation strategy with appropriately combining the two strategies. More specifically, semantic translation strategy can reflect its illustrative feature, in which the corresponding methods are literal translation and amplification translation; communicative translation strategy can highlight the text’s ministrant and vocative function, in which the corresponding methods are personal transformation, sentence pattern reorganization, omission translation and liberal translation.Based on the integrated study of the translation theory and practice, this paper can provide some reference for related translation practice of the C-E translation of real estate commentary. Hopefully, it also can be helpful to improve the translation quality of such texts in the future.
