A Report On The E-C Translation Of The Boy Scouts Of Woodcraft Camp

This report is based on the translation practice of the novel The Boy Scouts of Woodcraft Camp, written by Thornton W. Burgess. The novel has twenty chapters, and mainly tells the growth and toughening of Boy Scouts Walter, Hal, Billy.etc in Woodcraft Camp. The book is a children novel. It has fascinating stories, witty, vivid and colloquial language. I selected the skopos theory as guiding theory, and made further research on and exploration of the E-C translation of children novels, attempting to work out the principles and strategies applicable for the E-C translation of children novels, so as to provide guidance and reference for future translation of similar texts.This report has five parts. The first part is a description of the translation task, including task background, task characteristics and entrusting party’s requirements. The second part is translation process description, including pre-translation preparations, translation process and post-translation matters. The third part is an introduction of the skopos theory and its application to the translation of this novel. The fourth part is difficulties and solutions in translating The Boy Scouts of Woodcraft Camp. I categorized the difficulties I encountered in this translation practice, elaborated on the theoretical thinking and solving process of those difficulties, and strove to work out translation strategies for those difficulties. The last part is conclusion, including unsolved problems in this translation practice and relevant thinking, together with inspirations and suggestions for future work and study.
