Since the reform and opening up policy, China’s economic development has greatly improved its political status in the international arena. Diplomatic activities are good ways to show the culture of a country and boost national image. Therefore, the C-E Diplomatic News Translation Project emerges under the cooperation of the Foreign Ministry of China, Xi’an International Studies University and Huanqiu.com. With the industrialization of translation, it transfers from the role of the traditional language exchange to a modern service. As a service, customers’ requirements have great effects on translators in providing translation service. And the C-E Diplomatic News Translation Project is no exception. The project imposes requirements from four aspects on translators, namely consistency of terminology, completion of texts, accuracy of translation and avoidance of ambiguity. In order to meet these requirements, this study,on the basis of semantic translation theory and analysis of features of the source and target texts, proposes three principles for C-E diplomatic news translation:(1) mirror image rule,(2) rule of conventionality,(3) rule of consistency. And then specific translation norms are discussed respectively from aspects of terminologies, commonlyused words and phrases and sentences. This study intends to provide reference for the CE Diplomatic News Translation Project and similar translation works and contribute to the diplomatic translation of China.
