A Report On Coordination In Diplomatic News Translation Practice

With the rapid development of the Internet throughout the world, the way humans get the required information is no longer tedious. While just through the Internet, the relevant information from around the world will reach the hands of the people in a very short period of time, which greatly facilitates the work and life of humans. Thus, government departments, enterprises and organizations in many countries, have established their own multi-lingual websites on the Internet to introduce themselves to the rest of world. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China has opened websites in the languages of Chinese, English, French, Spanish and others. The applications of multi-lingual websites mainly introduce to the world of China’s development of foreign affairs, major events, and the organization and staff of the Ministry. The creation of multi-lingual websites also sets higher requirements for the more onerous tasks of translation. In China, the cooperation between governments and schools, governments and enterprises, and schools and enterprises is expanding and deepening. Accordingly, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Company of Huanqiu.com and Xi’an International Studies University, have launched a cooperation in which Xi’an International Studies University takes the responsibility of organizing students and teachers to constitute a project team for the diplomatic news translation of the English website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the process of cooperation, the project team has adopted the advanced theory of project management, applied project management tools and software in the whole operation process of the project, and achieved positive results. The author only undertakes the role of student translator at the early stage of project operation. After 5 months of operating of the project, the author undertakes another role of coordinator responsible for translators and revisers arrangement. And when the number of translators is not adequate, the author is also required to undertake the responsibility of a temporary project manager, and coordinates translators to meet the needs of the translation task. Nearly a year of practice greatly benefited the author in both translation and project management. This practice report, integrating the practice of the project group, states briefly the function of the project management proceeding from the perspectives of project communication management and project human resource management of the nine systems of Project Management Systems, and puts forward proposals for the project team in problems of communication and human resource emerged in the operation combining with project management theory.
