On Translation Of Attributive Clause From The Perspective Of The Skopostheorie

This is a report on the translation of a Sanxingdui archaeological text. The author translates the third chapter of Ancient Sichuan: Treasures from a Lost Civilization. A great number of attributive clauses have been used in such professional archaeological literature, and to translate such clauses has a special requirement for translators on authentic expression. As for this question, the author takes and analyzes examples of the translation of attributive clauses in the following three aspects, namely preposition, post-position and separation, trying to find a general method to translate attributive clauses and then makes the translation conform to the language habits of readers in the target language. Therefore, the author has conducted a preliminary study and exploration on the methods and skills of translating attributive clause in the archaeological texts from the perspective of Skopostheorie under the German functionalism, and in this way the author’s translation ability can be improved. At the same time, this paper would be a reference to more translator in the aspect of how to use the proper translation theory to guide the translation activities. Based on the Skopostheorie, this paper analyzes the guidance of translation purpose to the translator in the process of translation activities, and points out that the choice of translation methods must be in accordance with the translation purpose. This paper is divided into 4 parts. Part one is a brief introduction to the whole translation task, including the background information and main contents of this task and the whole translation process, including the preparation before translation, the translation process and proofreading. The theoretical basis of the whole translation project is introduced in part two, namely the Skopostheorie put forward by the German functionalism and the selecting of translation methods. Part three is mainly about the translation methods of attributive clause under the guidance of Skopostheorie. And the fourth part is a summary of the translation project and this paper, including the problems unsolved and experience in the translation process.
