This is a translation report based on E-C translation of the attributive clauses in 2nd and 7th Parts of Companies Act 1993 of New Zealand. The act has the binding effect on the company formation and management. At the same time, it has guiding function for the development of companies and the acquisition as well as guarantee of shareholder’s interests. Nowadays, the international trade develops rapidly and many Chinese entrepreneurs establish enterprises in other countries. The Chinese enterprises which develop companies in New Zealand must observe Companies Act of New Zealand. The author hopes such translation can provide reference for the enterprises. This translation report, based on a review of the E-C translation methods for attributive clauses in general language and legal language, explores the methods for E-C translation of attributive clauses in legislative text. The author hopes it proves to be useful for legal English translators.In the translation report,the author first introduces the significance of the project and the characteristics, the types and the general translation methods of attributive clauses., On this basis, the author, in accordance with the translation theories and model sentences given by Sun Wanbiao in A Course in Translation of Legal Documents and in the light of the examples from Delaware General Corporation Law and its authoritative Chinese translation, explores specific translation techniques adopted when translating Companies Act 1993 of New Zealand, including preposed translation method and converted translation method. Finally the author summarizes the experience acquired in the translation practice and the problems to be solved.
