The author of How We Learn:Throw out the rule book and unlock your brain’s potential is Benedict Carey, a journalist on medical and science topics for The New York Times. How We Learn is a book about learning science. At present, there is no other vision of this book. In How We Learn, the author overturned the traditional views toward learning and introduced us how to learn more effectively without demanding more effort. He held the idea that we shouldn’t regard learning as a drudgery, but turning it into a part of our lives. However, under the circumstance of exam-oriented education in our country, for students, learning is a mission not an interest, which leads to a series of problems such as low learning efficiency and learning burnout. I selected Chapter 9 of the book-Learning without Thinking. This Chapter illustrated how to use the least amount of efforts to achieve the most efficient learning and how to improve learning efficiency using perceptual learning. That exactly can provide some suggestions for solving the problems mentioned above.After translating the book and reflecting on the whole process, the translator wrote this report. The practical report is composed of three parts:Part one is the Introduction, which mainly introduced the background knowledge about the original book, the purpose and significance of this translation practice.Part two is the main body of this report, including three chapters:Chapter one is Task Description, the author Benedict Carey and main contents of the book were introduced.Chapter two is Translation Process, it’s about the preparation work before translation and the implementation of the translation and proofreading.Chapter three is Case Analysis, which is the most important chapter of this report. Tytler’s Three Translation Principles and other translation skills the translator applied in the translation process were introduced by the analysis of the translation of the title, terminologies and sentences.The last part is Conclusion. In this part the translator concluded what she has gained through this translation practice.
