An Interpreting Report On “Happiness?” -Lecture Series Of Bai Yansong

With the deepening of globalization, cultural exchanges of media professionals play a more and more important role in cross-cultural communication and promote the exchanges between China and the western countries. “Bai Yansong’s lecture in Harbin Institute of Technology” is one of the most representative cultural exchange activities. This thesis is an interpreting report based on the consecutive interpreting practice of Bai Yansong’s lecture in Harbin Institute of Technology.This thesis consists of three chapters: Chapter One, Task Description; Chapter Two, Process Description; Chapter Three, Case Analysis.Chapter One is task description. It introduces the background and the characteristics of the task. It aims at elaborating the theme and the features.Chapter Two is process description. It includes the preparation and the interpreting process. The author talks about the detailed preparation for the task and the problems encountered during interpreting and the solutions to these problems.Chapter Three is case analysis. The author uses Bai Yansong’s lecture at HIT as the object to do the case analysis from three levels: general statement interpreting; cultural statement interpreting; humorous statement interpreting, and summarizes and elaborates the interpreting strategies.In conclusion, the final part of this thesis includes the experience and reflections gained from the interpreting. The author sums up the encountered problems, solutions and the interpreting strategies, explication theory and syntactic linearity, which can offer some referential experience for the future interpreting.
