A Practical Report At The Si With Text Of A Speech At The 2015 Annual Conference Of The Northeast Asia International Language And Culture Researching Base

The author was given the opportunity to serve as a simultaneous interpreter in The Second Annual Conference of the Northeast Asia International Language and Culture Researching Base during his study in the MTI major of Jilin University. It is a high level academic conference which attracted many excellent scholars from home and abroad. All of this raised the bar for the interpreter. This paper is based on this SI practice activity. The author analyzed the problems he encountered during the interpretation and tried to find the reason and come up with possible ways to solve the problems. This is beneficial to the author’s interpretation ability and surely a experience gainer for future career.This is a simultaneous interpretation with text. Even though the interpreter has the text to rely on, flawlessly finishing the task is still not easy. Thus, the author also recorded his pre-task preparation. Problems emerged during the interpretation.According to the real situation, the author selected 4 quality-affecting problems for the case study. They are wrong choices of vocabulary, unnecessary repetition,misinterpretation and disordered sentence structure and half-spoken sentences. The author takes some documents as reference and tried to come up with solutions. They are syntactic linearity, omission, deverbalization and anticipation.This practice examined the author’s SI ability, presenting a clearer understanding towards SI. All the problems mentioned are on-spot ones. Hopefully they can be of some help to other interpreters.
