The paper based on Chinese Language Syllabus for Foreign Students in Higher Education(long-term training)(hereinafter referred to briefly as long-term syllabus), studies the multi-category words in Developing Chinese from aspects of whether tag the word class or not, what is the sequence of tagging word class and what is the master level of students’. Through the study of these aspects, we can see the advantages and shortcomings of multi-category words in textbooks. In order to reflect the learner’s mastery of multi-category words more objectively and factually, we adopt questionnaire method to analyze and statistic the errors of learners. In view of the deficiency of the textbook, the paper also puts forward practical suggestions from three aspects: the teaching material compilation, the teacher teaching and the student study. The specific contents are as follows:The first chapter is the introduction, including research origin, purpose, significance, status and methods. Research origin is based on the particularity and importance of multi-category words in the modern Chinese. The purpose and significance of the research is mainly about the special status of multi-category words in Chinese teaching as a foreign language. Research status studies multi-category word itself and multi-category words in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. The paper uses methods of literature analysis method, comparative analysis method and questionnaire survey method.The second chapter analyzes the status of Chinese multi-category words and this chapter is divided into two parts: multi-category word itself and multi-category words in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Specifically speaking, we studies multi-category word itself from the definition, part of speech tagging and status. The second part we study from part of speech tagging and the status of multi-category words in Chinese teaching as a foreign language.The third chapter is the analysis of multi-category words in Developing Chinese. This chapter analyzes the speech tagging differences and distribution differences of multi-category words in Developing Chinese and long-term syllabus. In addition, I have a detailed investigation to the tagging of word class in Developing Chinese and sum up the advantages and disadvantages in dealing with multi-category words in textbook.The fourth chapter is the error analysis of multi-category words in Developing Chinese. This chapter uses questionnaire survey method to research contents including error types and causes of errors.The fifth chapter gives some suggestions from the compilation of teaching materials, teacher teaching and learning according to the errors researched.The last part summarizes the main research gains, innovation points and deficiencies of this paper.
