This thesis is a report on the E-C translation of news from ESPN about the 2014-2015 NBA finals.It introduces the features of the original texts, describes the work during the whole process of the practice, and discusses what difficulties in the NBA news translation are and how to solve the problems. Problems in sports news translation lie in comprehension and expression. Comprehension is the foundation. It is hard to comprehend accurately in sports news translation because of obscurity of word meaning and lack of background knowledge. Translators should precisely understand the original texts, for which they must make full use of the Internet and dictionaries to know the features of the original texts, to grasp the background information and to translate with repeated deliberation. The choice of expression strategies depends on the purposes of the source texts, while the difficulties in sports news translation lie in title translation and sentence translation. For the title translation, translators need to abstract the whole article, bring out the crucial point to meet the readers’ eyes. Translation of Long sentences and elliptical sentences are even harder. Translators should logically divide the sentences into several parts and recombine them or add omitted parts to make target texts complete, smooth and accurate.
