This paper will be a translation report based on the translation practice of What Should We Be Worried About? Real Scenarios that Keep Scientists up at Night. The editor of the work is John Brockman. With the development of science and technology constantly, people’s life becomes more convenient and portable. But the high-tech production, investment and our negative behavior also brings some risk and potential threat. This book is mainly a collection of a lot of celebrities’ narration of his concerns. Each story is enough to alert the world and warn us from relying too much on seemingly very attractive products of science and technology, but to see the potential risk through the phenomena after social events and technical development. This report is finished by connecting professional knowledge learned during the MTI with concrete practice, by the application of a series of translation skills, and the help of the teacher and classmates. This report is mainly inclusive off our parts:the task description, the process of translation work, application of functional equivalence and translation case analysis from syntactic level. The first chapter is to describe the translation task, which mainly introduces the background and choose reason for the original translation. Through looking up some relevant materials, the translator describe the writer to understand well about the writing culture and background. The second chapter mainly introduces the process of translation, how to arrange the process and how to deal with time and quality emergency and how to improve translation skill by problems meeting in the process. The third chapter is to talk about the functional equivalence in translation and give a lot of examples. Learning the theory is not the aim but applying the theory in practice is the key to sublime theory in practice. The last chapter discusses the syntactic translation skills. Compared with equivalence, the syntactic usage is more detailed. In the end, the author makes a systematic summary for the whole translation and translation practice report.
