This source material is selected from the official website of the Hi-tech Zones in Shanxi Province and it is an introduction to their geographical locations, infrastructure, leading industries and development program. The source language is Chinese and the target language is English. The booming development of the high-tech zones has contributed to the region’s economic growth. The translation report consists of four chapters. During the translation process, based on having a comprehensive understanding to the source materials, the author selects part of materials to translate.The report mainly analyzes the lexical and syntactical characteristics, and reviews the main translation difficulties encountered in the translation process and the methods used. The problems are translating Chinese-style words, sentences without subjects, and long sentences. And translation methods for difficult points include expansion, omission, amplification, voice conversion, reconstruction and division. The author concludes that a translator needs to think and find the connotation and extension of the text. Only then can translated version be faithful to the original and convincing. Although there are shortcomings in the translation, the author has still benefited from the process and is better aware of what to improve and how in her future work. The author hopes this report is helpful to other translation learners.
