This is a translation report. The source text is excerpted from chapter 1 to chapter 3 of Out on the Pampas. The three chapters mainly tell the story of Hardy’s family’s immigration to Pampas, Argentina. It mainly includes the preparation before immigration, the process of immigration and the life when the family first came to Pampas. The translator chooses the three chapters as the translation source text, with a total words of 11000.There are four parts in this report. The first part describes the background, the content of the source text and the significance of the task. The second part is an analysis of the source text. The third part is case study, which elaborates the analysis of specific translation issues and relevant solutions. The forth part summarizes the findings of the translation. The translator deals with word translation with the methods of word conversion and pronoun concretization. In translation of sentences,linear translation, word adjustment and division of sentences are the main methods.On textual level, the translator mainly uses interconnection and coherence. This report tries to discuss some issues on translation of adventure fiction through case study. In the process of translation, the translator has given top priority to the translation of related terms and sentence structure. And the translator has kept the style of the source text in mind. The translator makes research into the linguistic features, functions and purposes of the source text and adopts proper translation strategies accordingly, such as literal translation, free translation and so on.In a word, the case study is conducted with a view to providing some useful instructions on English fiction translation. It is hoped that more and more translators could participate in literary translation.
