Interpreter As Multi-tasking Facilitator In Business Cooperation

Since its reform and opening up, China has expended its business and trade with the rest of the world, especially after entering the World Trade Organization. Meanwhile, interpreters, which act as the bridge of communication in international business cooperation, play a vital role in boosting those intercultural commercial exchanges.From December,2014 to February,2015, the author interned as an interpreter for the establishment of a Sino-U.S. chemical joint venture, during which the author interpreted in lectures, hands-on training, meetings, dinners, sight-seeing, etc. Based on former studies, this paper, through some examples and case study, analyzes interpreters as multi-tasking facilitators in business cooperation in detail, namely liaison interpreting, conference interpreting, translation and administrate assistance.This internship interpreting lasted for about three months which involved varied subjects and situations, and the author had shouldered multiple tasks to ensure that the cooperation goes well. This paper tries to make a conclusion on interpreters’ multi-tasks, and hopefully, provide new theatrical support considering interpreters’ multiple roles in further studies and promote understandings about interpreting, thus to help potential interpreters better understand their responsibilities and improve interpreting qualities in the future.
