Ways of teaching Chinese to foreign children differ from foreign adult. Learners are different in age, learning motivation, cognitive style and the choice of learning strategies. The Chinese children’s songs, whose contents are simple and vivid, featured in strong musicality and game-play accord with the nature of children’s cognitive style exactly. The attempt of introducing Chinese children’s songs to young foreign learners can stimulate overseas children’s interest in learning Chinese and play a supporting role in language teaching. Based on the research of the related data, the thesis analyzes learning characteristics of children learners in physical, emotional, and cognitive style. By collecting and analyzing Chinese children’s songs, the thesis analyses the language features of children’s songs and application value in teaching Chinese as a foreign language to children.The thesis consists of five parts: the first part is the introduction, which introduces the reason of selecting this subject, the research significance and purpose, research methods, literature review of related research. This part gives a definition of "children’s songs" and "children" and explains the source of children’s songs. From the perspectives of the characteristics of children’s learners and Chinese children’s song of linguistic features, Chapter one analyzes theoretical basis of the application of children’s song in teaching Chinese as a foreign language to children. Chapter two serves as case anlysas, doing research on the application value of children’s song on phonetic teaching, vocabulary teaching, grammar teaching and culture teaching. The third Chapter analyzes children’s songs appeared on the textbook of teaching Chinese to foreign children and puts forward five principles about introducing children’s songs in language teaching and textbook compilation. The author gives her specific teaching suggestions from two aspects of teachers’ ability, classroom teaching, and design a teaching plan in chapter four.
