Volunteer Chinese teachers team are the important force to promote Chinese language and Chinese culture, and their professional development level is not only the quality of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, but also an important standard of measuring whether their personal career development plan is scientific and reasonable. From a novice to an experienced teacher need to experience a long and tortuous process. Using the method of narrative research can dig out the factors that affect their professional development, and find out effective solutions.In this paper, with the advantage of being a volunteer Chinese teacher in Thailand, in order to find out the factors of affecting the development of volunteers by the way of interview, field observation,physical methods of collection and analysis, and take the form of the combination of the three volunteer Chinese teachers in different terms to reproduce the process of professional development in Thailand.And it has found out that objective factors include national policy, education policy of Thailand, teacher on-the-job training and subjective factors include cognitive ability, career development motivation, education teaching belief and practice wisdom, etc. To solve above problems, some related suggestions have been put forward to promote the professional development of volunteers.The present states of professional development for volunteer Chinese teachers are that they have different personal career ideals under the big goal of promotion of Chinese language and Chinese culture,experience the change from the romantic occupation ideal to complex teaching reality,act multiple identities,and their education teaching beliefs are mainly affected by the later teaching practice and teaching environment and mature constantly,they learn to deal with various flexible teaching condition and increase practical wisdom by constantly learning.But there are some unstable factors on the continuous professional development.These unstable factors are from both the incomplete country policy guarantee for returned volunteers,the particularity of working environment overseas and the insufficient degree of self-reflection and,the shake of personal career development motivation,etc.To solve above problems,following recommendations will be put forward.First, China increases welfare safeguard of returned volunteers. Second,overseas training content should be increased. Third,volunteer Chinese teachers should promote cognitive ability, strengthen the professional development motivation,learn continuously and reflect timely.
