C-E Simultaneous Interpretation Of Hexi Corridor In Light Of Skopos Theory

As China is rising as a world power, Chinese global strategies are varying accordingly. President Xi has proposed the New Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21 st Century Maritime Silk Road, which reminds us of the ancient Silk Road and Hexi Corridor. The historical documentary Hexi Corridor reiterates the importance of the terrestrial Silk Road. This documentary introduces the history and culture in western China and how important Hexi Corridor was in the course of historical development. Again it reveals its strategic position in China’s history. The heroism advocated at that time is so precious to us today, which is accessible for us under the strategy of Belt and Road Initiative.In today’s cultural exchange, simultaneous interpretation has played an even increasingly important role. The documentary used to convey culture is so inclusive that there are numerous expressions of Chinese characteristics. This thesis focuses on the strategies of Chinese-English simultaneous interpretation. Out of the differences between English and Chinese, we have to, via analysis, convey the hidden meaning or omit some extra expression in interpretation to meet the readers’ demand so as to improve the quality of the interpretation.This thesis generally introduces the Skopos and focuses on simultaneous interpretation strategies of literal translation, paraphrase, amplification and ellipsis with the aim to improve the interpretation quality for better linguistic and cultural exchange and for the solid foundation of future interpretation. Simultaneous interpretation is a challenging job, however, with Skopos, we can avoid the equivalence and make the interpretation more applicable in the audiences’ culture. Besides, it is an opportunity to spread Chinese culture and the Silk Road to every corner of the world to improve mutual understanding, communication as well as cooperation.
