A Practice Report On The Chinese-English Consecutive Interpretation Of The Documentary "Hexi Corridor"

In recent years,more and more documentaries about China have emerged,and documentaries have become the important way to spread Chinese culture.This is a practice report of Chinese-English mock consecutive interpretation for the documentary "Hexi Corridor".The first episode "The Messenger",the second episode "The Passage" and the third episode "The Post" of "Hexi Corridor" were selected for the mock Chinese-English consecutive interpretation practice.The report specifically analyzes the problems encountered in the process of interpretation and proposes corresponding solution strategies.By analyzing the audio of the interpretation and the self-assessment after the interpretation,the author found that the problems can be divided into three main parts: translation of culturally loaded words,handling of run-on sentences and coping with information redundancy.For the problems in the interpretation process,the author summarized the corresponding solution strategies through the corresponding case studies.For the problem of missing connotation in the translation of culturally loaded words,the strategy of phonetic translation with notes and the strategy of free translation are adopted;for the issue of logic in the translation of run-on sentences,the strategy of splitting and reorganizing as well as adding conjunctions are adopted;for the problem of information redundancy,the strategy of omitting translation and combination are adopted.This report provides the author with practical experience for the future career,strengthens the understanding of interpretation and improves the interpretation level of the author.And the author also hope this report can provide reference for similar interpretation task in the future.
