Research On Interpreting Of Expressions With Chinese Characteristics From The Perspective Of Skops Theory

From the perspective of the domestic level, China’s overall strength has been surging up thanks to the reform and opening up and modernization drive. From the perspective of international level, countries are bound more closely for frequent exchanges and economic globalization. In today’s world, China has more exchanges with other countries and much more effects on the international politics and economics. Therefore, the international community pays much attention to China’s domestic situation and developing plans. On the 28th of September,2015, President Xi Jinping attended the summit of the United Nations and addressed on the debate, theming Xo forge a new friendship of win-win cooperation and a future-shared community for mankind. This is a good opportunity for the international community to know China’s conditions and policies.Like a bridge between China and other countries, interpreting plays an important role in Mr. Xi’s speech. What’s more, due to China’s unique circumstances and long history, there are plenty of expressions with Chinese characteristics in his speech which are hard to understand for foreigners, from both cultural and political aspects. China’s long history and colourful culture make a profound Chinese language possible. Those expressions with Chinese characteristics have been appearing in China’s developing process. They are cultivated by China’s unique cultural, political and times factors, conveying China’s spirits and traditional culture. Those expressions with Chinese characteristics are classified in two categories:expressions affected by historic materials and expressions affected by China’s unique economic and culture after reform and opening up.As to people from other countries, those expressions with Chinese characteristics are hard to understand from both cultural and political aspects. Thus, the interpreting of this speech is quite challenging. Based on the speech of President Xi Jinping at The United Nations Summit, Skopos Theory plays a guiding role in this thesis for the interpreting of expressions with Chinese characteristics. In this thesis, there are five chapters to demonstrate how to solve those problems. I wish it could be helpful for the interpreting of expressions with Chinese characteristics so that interpreting can play its full role.
