Practice Report On Consecutive Interpretation Of President Xi Jinping's Speech At B20 Summit

As the second largest economy in the world,China still boasts a fairly high growth rate at a time when the global economic recovery is weak.The other countries hoped the 8th B20 summit would achieve fruitful results,so as to find good solutions to cast off the shadow of financial crisis.Therefore,all participants cherished a great expectation for the Xi Jingping's Speech.At the same time,interpretation quality becomes a key to conveying the message of the speech successfully to the audience.So the quality of interpretation is very important.The author chose President Xi Jinping's Speech at the Opening Ceremony of the B20 Summit as the original material for simulated consecutive interpretation,and accomplished this practice report by simulated consecutive interpretation from Chinese to English.There are two reasons to choose this material,on the one hand it uses a lot of stylistic devices,on the other hand it has many Chinese complex sentences.It is difficult to translate those devices from Chinese to English,for it requires a lot of translation skills.By comparing the interpretation material of lexical stylistic devices,syntactical stylistic devices and complex sentences,this writer will conclude some translation experience and skills for the good of interpreting similar subjects,structures or phrases in the future.The main translation experience and skills are as follows:first,the interpretation of simile or metaphor can borrow some words or sentence patterns in English which can represent the simile or metaphor,or reserve the original images to make the sentences more vivid;second,literal translation and corresponding translation are suitable for the adduction rhetoric;syntactic stylistic devices pay more attention to the structural equivalence translation;complex sentences can restructure the sentences according to the logical relationship among sentences and choose the sequential skills for the feature of immediacy;finally,the translation of lexical and syntactical stylistic devices and complex sentences all can use free translation to convey information based on the concrete conditions.
