| This paper is a translatio n practice report.The materials that the author translated are English scientific news.It is difficult for ordinary Chinese readers to understand English scientific news because of strong timeliness,great volume of information,and frequent use of abbreviations and professional terms.Therefore,the practice of trans-editing scientific news is key to helping the readers know about the latest scientific information.Trans-editing is different from literal translation for it organically combines translating and editing.News trans-editing is the translating method of converting and processing the source language news into target language news,by means of translating and ed iting(Liu Qizhong,2009).Considering that news trans-editing is characterized with obvious purposes,the author chooses Hans J.Vermeer's skopos theory as the guidance of this practice report.The author applies the three rules of skopos theory(skopos rule,coherence rule,and fidelity rule)to analyzing his news trans-editing cases,aiming at demonstrating that skopos theory is instructive to news trans-editing.In the course of trans-editing,translators shall comply with the requirements of the client and take the purpose of news communication into consideration to output qualified news that suit Chinese readers.Basing on skopos rule,the author applies the methods of deletion and addition to select information and transmit what readers are really interested in;the author adjusts the sentence order o f the source text and integrates parallel information to insure the readability and acceptability of the target text,which embodies coherence rule;that the author reserves some necessary information and translates them precisely to make translated texts faithful to the original is the demand of fidelity rule.This report is composed of four parts.The first part describes the source of translation material and background information of the news texts.The second part is comprised of the description of translation processes including preparation,translation,and revision and introduction of the theoretical basis of trans-editing.The third part is the core of the report.It provides an analysis of some typical cases.In this part,the author analyzes the methods of trans-editing titles and bodies of the news through listing some cases,and emphasizes the details for trans-editing.The fourth part is a summary of the author's translation practice.The author reviews what he has harvested in the course of trans-editing English scientific news,hoping to highlight the instructive significance that skopos theory has for scientific news trans-editing and provide some reference for other news trans-editors. |
