This report is a translation practice report. The original article, named“Confucius and Crisis in American Universities: Culture, Capital, and Diplomacy in US. Public Higher Education”and published by Routledge on May 23 th. 2014, is selected by the translator. The author is Amy Stambach. The translator translated the third and fourth chapter. The third chapter mainly describes language teaching in Confucius Institute. The fourth chapter analyzes American university administrators’ attitude towards Confucius Institute.This report contains four parts. The first part is the background introduction to translation task, namely, brief introduction to translation program, including program background, content, goal, significance. The second part is the description of translation process, including text analysis, theoretical foundation, translation strategies and methods. The third part is case analysis, including vocabulary and sentence difficulties. The fourth part is the summary of translation program, covering translation deficiency, insight and required qualities of a qualified translator. Among all these, the second and third parts are the most important. The skopos theory is the main theoretical basis for translating this article. The translator analyzed and translated this article under the guidance of skopos theory. Proper translation methods and strategies are applied according to text target. During the analysis, the translator got a better understanding of the text and applied the skopos theory to translation practice more proficiently.
