Cultural products not only have nature of ideological, but also the nature of economic. Cultural industry has the characteristics of low energy resources consumption and less pollution, high profits and high added value etc. Culture industry is a typical “promising Industry” and “green industry”.Nowadays, culture has become an important field of consumption. Cultural industry and other industries connect with each other, which will inevitably lead to the development of related industries and bring great wealth to the society. With the advent of the era of information economy, the cultural industry proportion in GNP is on the rise. More and more countries have realized that the cultural industry has the great potential of promoting economic growth, and have made lots of policies to promote the development of cultural industries and cultural trade. Many developed countries have regarded cultural industry as a pillar industry. In terms of the United States, its cultural industry output value has accounted for 25% of GDP. Cultural industry has become the second largest pillar industry except military industry. Today, international competition becomes fiercer and fiercer, cultural trade becomes a new field of competition. Now, the United States, Britain, Germany, Japan, South Korea are the recognized five great power of the cultural industry. China is a large country in the international trade, which is not included in great power of cultural industry. The growth rate of cultural trade of China is far behind the growth rate of the overall foreign trade. China’s cultural industry accounts for only 3% of the GDP in China, China’s cultural industry accounts for less than 5% of the world’s cultural market while the United States accounted for 42% of the world’s cultural market. Our country has a comparative advantage in cultural resources, but we cannot make full use of the abundant cultural resources. In order to gain a foothold in the international cultural market, we China have to give strong support to the cultural industry, and enhance the competitiveness of cultural industry.Firstly, this paper introduces the concept, classification and the characteristics of international cultural trade. And then illustrates the meaning of developing international cultural trade to our country. Then this paper calculates the related data of cultural products trade from 2007 to 2014 with the help of UN Comtrade database and UN Service Trade database. Then this paper analyzes the current situation of China’s cultural trade, from four aspects like the trade scale, structure, layout and international competitiveness. And then come to the conclusion that the structure of cultural trade is unbalanced, the layout of cultural trade is too centralized and the competitiveness of culture product and cultural service in our country is not strong. This paper then analyzes the factors of restricting the development of China’s international trade, and then analyzed the successful mechanism of the developed country like the United States, South Korea in international cultural trade. Finally, this paper gives some feasible suggestions according to the successful experience of the two countries and current situation of China’s cultural trade.
