With the rapid development of China’s economy, the process ofurbanization continues to accelerate. In order to seek more job opportunities, alarge number of young workers from rural area migrated to cities and becamemigrant workers. The migrant workers unable to solve the practical problems oftheir children after into the city, such as housing, schooling, medical care and soon, therefore, a large number of children of migrant workers have to leave theirparents to stay at home in rural areas, becoming left-behind children. However,left-behind children is in the early and critical period of socialization, theoutlook on life, ethics and the values is not yet mature. Meanwhile, due to theinadequate family interaction and supervision, lots of left-behind childrenaddicted to media use, such as watching TV and surfing the internet. This paperaims to analyze the left-behind children’ s access to and use of TV, and toinvestigate the influence of TV on the socialization of them and then to providesuggestions and countermeasures on how to weaken the negative effects.The paper sampled400left-behind children from Fenghua ExperimentalElementary School in Yuanyang county, Meihe Elementary School in Baqiantown of Xinzheng city and Mingyang Middle School in Ye county ofPingdingshan city. The media uses,media literacy,socialization and theinfluence of TV media on life skills, interpersonal relationships, moral valuesand career goals of rural left-behind children was examined in questionnaire. Itwas found that, for the reason that parents work outside all the year round, lotsof left-behind children are single parenting and lack of parent-child interaction.They are in pursuit of fun and pass time by watching TV, in order to get spiritualconsolation. However, rural left-behind children lack of media literacy, and theycannot use media rationally, cannot distinguish media content correctly andcannot make full use of media resources to improve themselves. As a result,extensive media dependency affects the normal development of the ruralleft-behind children’s socialization. This paper in the last proposes the relatedcountermeasures and the suggestion from strengthening the cultural construction of rural campus, constructing the education system of media literacy with ruralleft-behind children as the core and improving the quality of TV content. Hopemass media to play a positive role in the socialization process of ruralleft-behind children and promote rural left-behind children’ socialization go onsmoothly.
