This study explored the influence of media,mainly television and smart phones,on the socialization of left-behind children.The data were collected from Gaojiaya Village,Yuzhong County,Gansu province.The study found that Television and smart phones have brought a dual impact,both positive and negative,on the socialization of left-behind children.In social dealings,smart phones have facilitated the parent-child interaction of the left-behind children.Television and smart phones have constructed the imagination and expectation of the left-behind children on “good family”and the role of family members.Television and smart phones have also affected the content and form of communication between left-behind children and their friends,the social ability,heterosexual communication and the standards of choosing friends of left-behind children.In terms of learning,Smart phones can have a positive impact on the learning of left-behind children,but over reliance can also bring about negative effects.As for the life value,TV and smart phones can shape the attitudes towards money,provide star idols,build role expectations.At the same time,the influence of media and the influence of social culture environment where left-behind children are constructed and influenced by each other.On the one hand,the media will exert indirect influence with the help of social and cultural environment.On the other hand,the influence of media is also restricted by the social and cultural environment.The study also found that there are six main problems in the media use of left-behind children nowadays:the absence of the father's role;In regard to Utilizing the smart phone to assist teaching,the performance of the school is too arrogant,while the grandparental guardians are full of prejudice and incompetence;the media use of the left-behind children needs supervision and guidance;the grandparental guardians are facing dilemma of inaction and helplessness;school education is insufficient;peer groups are overcompensated.Finally,this study put forward five specific countermeasures for these problems.
