Currently, China has entered the aging society, and the number of old peoplecontinues to grow. The implementation of family planning makes the nuclear family tobecome the mainstream of society. In the process of urbanization, migration and mobilitybecome more frequent and the number of rural empty nesters is increasing gradually. Allsectors of society need to pay attention to how to meet the spiritual needs of empty nestersand let them spend their remain years in comfort.This study selects empty nest elderly of village H in Q city as the object. Analysisshows that the spiritual life of the elderly is emptiness and their spiritual needs areprotrude particularly. Social work is necessary to intervene. On this basis, the author usesthe method of group work. At the guidance of empowerment theory, he picked out eightempty nesters to have intervention group work, summarizing and reflecting on the processof group activities and then assessing the effect of group activities. The main purpose ofthis group activity is to provide a platform of a peer communication for empty nesters inVillage H. In order to enhance their ability of interpersonal communication and enrichtheir leisure life. Let them re-found confidence, certainly themselves and discovery the joyof life in the activities. Let them face the empty nest life and guide them to support eachother and then achieve the goal of self-help and mutual assistance. The study found thatgroup work methods have a positive role in meeting the spiritual solace of empty nesters.Meanwhile, peer groups should play their roles. In group work they can play the role of a"leader", formating a long-term mutual assistance mechanism in later activities. But thestudy also has something worthy of reflection. Firstly, the group work should fully respectthe principle of self-determination of the main case in the future and consider itsparticularity; Secondly is to change the role of social workers properly and play the role ofguidance and coordination well; Thirdly, the spiritual needs of empty nesters can use themethod of individual case, team and community work and to be met by all sides of work.
