Research On Home-based Caring Services For Senior People In Gongshu District Of Hangzhou City

China has entered the aging society. The contradiction between demand and supplyof caring services for senior people becomes increasingly prominent. The construction anddevelopment of caring service facilities are required urgently. The model of home-basedcaring service shows unique advantages. It makes full use of family resources and reducessocial costs. The model meets the demands of different senior people. Meanwhile, themodel expands employment channels and promotes the development of service industries.The home-based caring service is a new, flexible and practical model, respectingpersonalized choices of senior people psychologically and meeting the needs of differentages.Gongshu District, Hangzhou has entered the aging society as elderly people aged60or above accounted for20.42%of total population in2010. Based on the latest experiencefrom home and abroad and through data research and questionnaires, deep and systematicstudies have been made in this article on current situations and problems in thedevelopment of home-based caring services for senior people in Gongshu District. It isfound that big progress has been achieved in home-based caring services for senior people,but there are still some outstanding problems and obvious defects in comparison withserious aging trends and growing demand for caring services, including imperfectfacilities, imbalance between supply and demand, imbalance between south and north,poor professionalization and standardization, and insufficient social participation. Greatefforts should be made to upgrade service facilities, improve personnel qualities, promoteindustrial cultivation and standardize services. This study aims to help solve the problemsin caring services for the senior people in Gongshu District, and also provides a referencefor other urban communities.
